Fast or Slow?

Me and my fiancee had a deep conversation once about whether true zombies would be fast (as in the newest dawn of the dead) or slow (as in old night of the living dead).

Personally I would like to believe they would be slow. One of the fascinations I have with zombies is the "what if" factor. The slow zombies I see in movies give me the impression there really would be a chance to survive. However the zombies that are super fast, almost impossible to kill, and in some cases even smart, there would not be a chance to survive.

Any other views on this?

  1. I think that they would run as fast as they did when they are breathing. So, if Flo Jo comes back you're prolly gonna die...

  2. Great post and great question!

What makes zombies such an appealing genre is that at first glance they seem harmless: slow, dull, can't communicate, can't use tools/weapons, no motor skills beyond shuffling, grabbing, and biting, but they have two things that make them terrifying: an insatiable and unstoppable drive and force by numbers. They tap into what we admire: determination and what we fear: opposing the masses. Making zombies run takes that all away. Now they are just a monster, not a reflection of humanity. Zombies don't run...
